Pharmacists involved in raising awareness among the general public

Alzheimer’s disease affects 900,000 people, with this number expected to increase to 1,200,000 by 2020. This means that within two years, 1 in 4 French people aged over 65 could be directly affected by Alzheimer’s disease (patient or carer). They often feel helpless, stigmatised and isolated in the face of this ordeal.

That’s why, for World Alzheimer’s Day and in partnership with Association France Alzheimer et maladies apparentées, Pharmagest invited pharmacists to take part in an awareness campaign on the disease from 17 to 26 September 2018.

Healthcare professionals had the opportunity to provide information to those aged 40-65 who visited the pharmacy and to challenge preconceptions through a true or false questionnaire integrated directly into their software*. The results of the test were given to those who requested them at the end of the questionnaire.

  • 3667 pharmacies took part in the campaign
  • 376 people agreed to complete a questionnaire at 284 pharmacies
  • The rate of correct answers to the quiz was nearly 70 % on average
  • People seem to bo less informed about the perception patients have of their condition and the treatments currently available.
  • A quarter of those surveyed left with the answers to the test.
